AirPods Pro 2 Can Be Used as a Hearing Aid
Official Approval Received from Health Organization
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has officially approved Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 for use as hearing aids. The new feature will be available to users with iOS 18.
A few months ago, the U.S.-based tech giant Apple made headlines with a remarkable claim. According to sources familiar with the matter, the company was preparing an update for the AirPods Pro 2. This update would enable the AirPods Pro to be used as hearing aids.
Now, a new development has emerged on the subject. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has officially approved Apple’s software update. This means that the AirPods Pro 2 can now be used as a hearing aid that can be purchased without a prescription.
Relief for Those with Mild to Moderate Hearing Loss
Apple’s software update will make life easier for individuals with mild to moderate hearing loss. The earbuds will automatically adjust the sound level based on the user’s hearing loss. Users will also be able to upload reports from their doctors into the system via mobile apps.
Apple has not made any official statements, but FDA official Michelle Tarver commented on the matter, saying, “The marketing authorization of an over-the-counter hearing aid software in a widely used consumer audio product today is another step forward in improving the availability, accessibility, and acceptability of hearing assistance for adults with mild to moderate hearing loss.”
