Amazon is Working on a ChatGPT Competitor
After the AI company OpenAI launched ChatGPT, major firms introduced strong competitors. It appears that tech giant Amazon is also working on a ChatGPT rival.
Amazon Developing ChatGPT Competitor Named “Metis”
After artificial intelligence company OpenAI released ChatGPT towards the end of 2022, several firms including Google launched their own chatbots. It appears that tech giant Amazon is also set to introduce a competitor to ChatGPT. According to a new report, Amazon is actively working on a consumer-focused chatbot codenamed “Metis.”
Amazon’s Competitor to ChatGPT
While there is no official confirmation yet, it is claimed that Amazon is developing an AI-powered chatbot under the codename “Metis,” which will be launched as a consumer-oriented tool. Allegedly, Amazon’s chatbot will operate via the web like others in the market.
Although details are scarce at this point, Metis is said to be supported by an internal Amazon AI model named Olympus. While the company’s public Titan model already exists, the new model is reportedly much more powerful. With the Olympus model, Metis is expected to provide intelligent, conversational responses based on text and image inputs. The chatbot will also integrate sources like Google Gemini for responses.
Amazon Metis is purported to generate real-time responses and answer queries related to topics such as stock prices. Additionally, its general capabilities are said to be similar to those of other competitors. It’s worth noting that Amazon has previously been reported to be working on a new Alexa enhanced with productive AI, known as “Remarkable Alexa,” which is said to share the same infrastructure as Metis according to the report.
Furthermore, Amazon is not new to AI-powered assistants. Last year, the company launched Amazon Q for enterprises, followed by Rufus this year for shopping assistance. While there is no official release date yet for the new service, an announcement is expected around August-September.
