Artificial intelligence warning from the USA
In a bulletin prepared by the Intelligence and Analysis Office of the US Department of Homeland Security, concerns were raised about the potential malicious use of AI-generated content during the upcoming 2024 presidential election process.
In an analysis bulletin sent to law enforcement agencies nationwide by the US Department of Homeland Security, warnings were issued about the potential threat of advanced artificial intelligence to the security of the presidential election scheduled for November 5th.
The bulletin stated, “As the 2024 election cycle progresses, AI-driven tools are likely to provide both domestic and foreign threat actors with increased opportunities to interfere by exacerbating rapidly evolving events, disrupting election processes, or attacking election infrastructure.”
The perpetrators of potential attacks through artificial intelligence are referred to as “nation-state adversaries” in the bulletin, with an assessment that “Russia, China, and Iran continue to develop the most sophisticated malicious influence campaigns online. Many of the tactics these adversaries use to influence US audiences are likely to be deployed ahead of the 2024 elections.”
The bulletin emphasized that the attacks would aim to undermine government institutions, social cohesion, and trust in democratic processes.
"WARNING OF DEEPFAKES"
During last week’s Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, US Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines warned Congress about the dangers of generative artificial intelligence, noting that AI technology could produce “deepfakes.”
An announcement from the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office stated that an investigation had been launched after an artificial intelligence-generated fake voice recording mimicking the voice of President Joe Biden was sent to voters’ phones ahead of the state’s primary elections on January 23rd.
