Gemini can now access songs on YouTube Music.

At the Google I/O 2024 event, Google announced the Gemini AI plugin that enables accessing songs on YouTube Music. The feature has been made available to both Android and iOS users.

Google has started rolling out the YouTube Music extension for Gemini. The extension allows users to command the chatbot to play songs from YouTube Music. The AI can find and play music based on the song, playlist, artist, and more.

How is the Gemini YouTube Music extension activated?

The way to activate the extension is by asking Gemini to find or play a song from YouTube Music. The chatbot automatically directs the user to the YouTube Music extension welcome screen. It’s also possible to enable the extension by going to Settings – Extensions – toggle the YouTube Music switch to on.

The YouTube Music integration allows Gemini to access the user’s YouTube Music data (such as playlists, listening history, liked songs, etc.). Commands are currently only available in English. Here are some key commands users can use:
Find [song name] by [artist name]
Find the album [album name] by [artist name]
Find theplaylist
Find [genre] music
Search for songs similar to [song name] by [artist name]
Find the song that goes [lyrics]
Find the [song name] music video
Start a radio based on the song [song name]
Search for [artist name] songs

On iPhone, when a command is typed, Gemini displays a card containing the song’s name, artist name, duration, and number of listens. On Android devices, the song starts playing in the background when searched.
