Figure AI Launches Advanced Figure 02 and Partners with OpenAI and BMW

Figure AI has introduced its new humanoid robot model, Figure 02, which now looks less like a prototype with its new body. Equipped with six different AI-powered RGB cameras, the robot can see its surroundings, move faster, and has significantly improved finger dexterity. The new humanoid robot boasts three times the AI processing power of Figure 01 and can operate 50% longer with a 2.25 KWh battery. Currently undergoing active factory testing, the robot can learn through analysis and make dynamic adjustments autonomously while working.

Regarding the robot, Figure AI stated, “Our engineering and design teams have completely redesigned both the hardware and software for Figure 02. Significant technical advancements have been made in critical areas such as AI, computer vision, battery, electronics, sensors, and actuators.” The new robot also supports voice communication, featuring built-in speakers and microphones.

Figure AI previously garnered attention by announcing a collaboration with OpenAI to develop next-generation AI models for humanoid robots. This partnership aims to enhance the natural language processing and reasoning capabilities of humanoid robots, accelerating the commercialization of their robots. The company also made headlines with a partnership with BMW, taking its first humanoid robot to BMW’s manufacturing facility in South Carolina, USA.

In a statement to TechCrunch, Figure AI mentioned that they will initially focus on five different tasks and clarified that the robot is not intended to replace factory workers. Figure AI and BMW aim to observe the performance of such technology in a real production process, with both parties gathering valuable insights from the experience.
