OpenAI Introduces a Smaller AI Model GPT-4o Mini
The mini version of GPT-4o, OpenAI’s most advanced multimodal AI model introduced a few months ago, has arrived.
About two months ago, OpenAI introduced a new multimodal AI model called GPT-4o. This model was notable for its ability to generate outputs in text, image, audio, and video formats, and for not needing connections to other models. Now, OpenAI has announced GPT-4o Mini.
According to third-party evaluations, GPT-4o was at the pinnacle of the market as the company’s most advanced model to date. A few weeks later, Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet model began to compete head-to-head with GPT-4o. Since then, the two models have been in a tight contest.
GPT-4o Mini is here
To stand out in the competition, OpenAI introduced the GPT-4o Mini model, describing it as “the most cost-effective small model on the market.” The cost for developers is 15 cents per 1 million user tokens, while the cost for each 1 million tokens generated is 60 cents.
Oliver Godement, Head of OpenAI API Products, stated that GPT-4o Mini is particularly beneficial for businesses and startups. Godement remarked, “The cost per unit of intelligence is so favorable that I believe it will be used for customer support, software engineering, creative writing, and all kinds of tasks. With each new model we adopt, new use cases emerge, and I believe this will be even more true for GPT-4o Mini.”
