Samsung Introduces a 1000-Kilometer Range Battery with a 20-Year Lifespan and Nine-Minute Full Charge Time
One of the main concerns regarding electric cars is the long charging times and short ranges. Most vehicles have ranges of around 400-500 kilometers. Moreover, charging these vehicles can take quite a long time. At this point, Samsung’s newly developed battery could be a beacon of hope.
At the SNE Battery Day 2024 Expo held in Seoul, South Korea, new battery technologies were introduced. Among these technologies, the first products of Samsung’s solid-state battery series were unveiled. According to a statement by the Vice President of Samsung SDI, the company has turned to these types of batteries because they are smaller, lighter, and safer.
Achieving 1000 Kilometers on a Single Charge
According to statements from Samsung, the batteries developed by the company are not cheap and will be used in luxury electric cars described as “super premium.” These batteries will be capable of exceeding a range of 1000 kilometers.
The new battery is noteworthy not just for its range. It will only require 9 minutes of charging to be fully charged, bringing the waiting times closer to the refueling times of traditional gasoline-powered vehicles. Additionally, Samsung claims that the battery’s lifespan is a full 20 years.
Previously, Toyota and Honda also announced that they would start producing solid-state batteries for electric vehicles by 2027. The current lack of popularity of this technology is attributed to its costs.
