Xiaomi phones can detect hidden cameras in your surroundings.

With the release of HyperOS 2.0, Xiaomi phones will be able to detect hidden cameras in your surroundings and notify you.

According to recent rumors, Xiaomi may soon add a hidden camera detection feature to its phones. Reports suggest that the Chinese smartphone giant is preparing to launch HyperOS 2.0, the next version of its operating system, and the hidden camera detection feature will be part of this release.

According to a report by XiaomiTime, HyperOS 2.0 may include a feature that allows supported Xiaomi devices to detect hidden cameras using wireless local area network (WLAN) signals. Xiaomi phone users will be able to identify suspicious devices connected to the local Wi-Fi network using this feature. In several alleged screenshots of the Hidden Camera Detection feature, the message “Detect hidden cameras to protect your privacy and personal security” is prominently displayed.

The screenshots also reveal that users can scan for suspicious devices with a single tap. Once the feature is released, users will only need to tap the “Start Scan” button and wait for the devices to be detected. After the scan is complete, the results will indicate whether any cameras have been found.

Interestingly, this new privacy feature in HyperOS 2.0 seems to have been inspired by a previously developed Python-based program called Ingram. The Ingram program detects camera vulnerabilities by scanning IP addresses. Additionally, this tool includes features such as signal strength analysis, SSID broadcasting, MAC address identification, and network traffic analysis.

Xiaomi’s security feature will be particularly beneficial for users who frequently find themselves in new places, such as travelers. HyperOS 2.0, which is expected to include the hidden camera detection feature, is anticipated to be released in October of this year.
