Years-old Paint is now transforming into a completely different identity.
After Photoshop and various other visual editing applications have been enhanced with AI capabilities for image creation, it's now Microsoft's Paint's turn. The tech giant is now transforming the iconic Paint application into an artificial intelligence application.
When Adobe announced that it would be adding the capability to create new images with the help of artificial intelligence to Photoshop, it caused quite a stir. Subsequently, many other visual editing applications also introduced this feature. Now, it’s time for Microsoft’s classic visual editing application, Paint, to join in.
Transformation from Paint to CoCreator
Paint has been a part of Windows for so long that there are very few Windows users who grew up without using this classic application. However, Microsoft had been neglecting it for a long time, and since competitors implemented major changes, Paint had remained a very rudimentary software.
But the company has been working on developing Paint for a while now. Thanks to its collaboration with OpenAI, Microsoft is now integrating OpenAI’s significant image generation algorithms into Paint. In other words, Paint will now also be able to create images based on commands.
Thus, similar to the Midjourney application, users can open Paint and, by giving a command like “draw me a white horse running in the fields,” Paint will generate an image of a white horse running in the fields for them. Furthermore, users can enhance these prompts with basic drawings. For example, if you sketch a rough outline of a running horse and add mountains, rivers, and clouds in the background, the generated image will be created according to your sketch plan.
CoCreator
In fact, Microsoft has been using this technology in the Edge browser since the beginning of the year. Edge users have access to the CoPilot AI assistant, where they can create images using the famous DALL-E AI algorithm. Now, Microsoft is integrating this capability with Paint, transforming the application into an AI assistant that users can employ to edit their uploaded images. For instance, when you say “remove the red pimples from the person’s face in the photo,” Paint will automatically accomplish this for you with the help of AI.
Microsoft will name this new AI-powered image creation application “CoCreator,” and it appears that CoCreator will become the go-to tool for those looking to create images with AI on Windows.
