Chat GPT's Decision on Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johansson’s voice on ChatGPT
In a statement made on the social media platform X, OpenAI announced that efforts are underway to pause access to the “Sky” voice option offered for chatting with ChatGPT.
The statement said, “We believe that AI voices should not intentionally mimic the authentic voice of a celebrity. Sky’s voice is not an imitation of Scarlett Johansson but belongs to a different professional actor using their own natural speaking voice.”
Many ChatGPT users had compared the “Sky” option to the tone of Johansson’s voice in the 2013 film “Her,” where she voices an AI operating system.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s use of the term “Her” in a post on his X account during the introduction of ChatGPT’s new version, GPT-4, also fueled these discussions.
Thanks to the “Voice Mode” feature, launched in September 2023 and made available for free in November, users can choose from five voices, including “Sky,” to chat with the AI model.
COULDN'T ESCAPE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
In 2023, Johansson made headlines with a similar issue. In an app called Lisa AI: 90s Yearbook & Avatar, the voice of the famous actress was being used by an artificial intelligence.
In response, Johansson filed a lawsuit against the app for using her name and voice without her permission.
