As a result of the embargoes imposed by the USA, Huawei is expanding its processor family. The company made a significant impact with the Mate 60, powered by the Kirin 9000S, and has now developed a desktop computer processor. The Huawei Qingyun W515x and W585x computers, powered by the Kirin 9000C, have been introduced.
The Kirin 9000C, developed by Huawei and SMIC, is an 8-core, 12-thread processor offering clock speeds of up to 2.48GHz. Recently, Huawei has faced difficulties in sourcing products from Intel and Qualcomm. With this processor, Huawei aims to expand in the desktop computer market.
The company’s MateBook laptops feature AMD Ryzen and Intel processors. However, the Qingyun W515x model, introduced in China, is powered by the Kirin 9000C. This indicates that the company is focusing more on local solutions.
Qingyun offers configurations to appeal to different users. The W515x comes with 8GB or 16GB of RAM and storage options ranging from a 256GB SSD to a 512GB SSD + 1TB HDD. The more affordable W585x features 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD.
On the software side, Huawei has opted for its own Tongxin operating system, which is different from HarmonyOS. It will be available in KOS 2403 and UOS 1070 versions. The independence from Windows reflects the goal of creating a standalone software ecosystem with the Kirin 9000C.
The price of the Qingyun W515x is currently unknown. The model introduced in China is expected to go on sale in the coming weeks. We will see over time what Huawei will achieve in this market.
