ChatGPT can now adopt the role of any character and speak accordingly with its new voice feature
OpenAI has shared a video showcasing another capability of ChatGPT’s improved voice mode. The chat bot can now quickly adopt the role of any character you want. The new version of the voice mode will be released soon.
A few weeks ago, at an event, OpenAI introduced the new language model GPT-4o. With this model, it was announced that ChatGPT‘s existing voice mode would also be improved. The chat bot would now be able to respond faster and sound more human-like.
Although the release date for the new voice mode is still unknown, OpenAI has been regularly sharing updates about its features. The company has now revealed another feature of the voice mode that will leave you speechless.
ChatGPT will be able to mimic character voices.
The new voice mode will have a “character voice” feature that allows ChatGPT to adopt the role of any character you want. From the demo accessible above, we can see that GPT-4o can respond in the desired manner for different characters, producing suitable voices for each one.
For example, in one part of the video, the model is asked to take on the role of a lion and speak accordingly. GPT-4o successfully produces a majestic lion’s voice, embodying the character. Following that, it is asked to be a mouse and does so effectively, even adjusting its voice to be higher pitched when requested to sound more like the character.
In another example, it becomes a wise owl, and in another, it takes on the role of a villain and delivers a frightening laugh. When asked which animal should have such an evil laugh, it responds, “I think a character with this kind of laugh could be a snake or a fox.”
This example showcases what you can do with ChatGPT. Soon, users will be able to create their own stories and have the model adopt any character in any manner they desire.
The new version of the voice mode will be released in the coming weeks.
ChatGPT’s new voice mode has not been launched yet. Currently, the older version is available in the app. Although OpenAI hasn’t provided a specific date, they indicate that the advanced mode will arrive in the coming weeks. It is worth noting that this feature will be exclusive to paid subscribers, meaning not everyone will have access to it.
